Do I have to file a BOI report as a Photographer?

There’s something new that photographers and other small business owners need to pay special attention to in 2024. Most will have to file a BOI (Beneficial Ownership Information) report as part of the Corporate Transparency Act. This report must be submitted to FinCEN (US Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network). If you established your business before January 1, 2024, then you have until January 1, 2025 to submit this report.

With everything that photographers already undertake, I hope this blog post will serve as a reminder to get this task done so you don’t face any legal trouble. We already wear dozens of hats, might as well check it off your to-do list during the off-season. For reference, I completed mine and it took less than 10 minutes.

For all of the official details and where you can file, head to https://www.fincen.gov/boi.
